Welcome to the 'Friends of Barnehurst PTA'. A PTA is a Parent Teacher Association, an organisation with a mission to make the school a better place for children to learn. Our PTA endeavours to bring together parents, teachers and children to raise funds and strengthen the wider school community. Our aim is to provide fun events for the children whilst ultimately raising much needed funds to enhance the learning environment that the school budget does not cover.
We are a registered charity with the Charity Commission and have specific roles which are a legal requirement of our charity status. Our PTA currently consists of a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. At our last Annual Meeting held in October 2021, elections were held and the roles were filled by the following members of the school community:
Chair – Emma Starkey
Vice Chair – Vikki Russell
Secretary – Daisy O’Neil
Treasurer – Tracey Abbey.
As well as these core members we have a great deal of help and input from our Family Engagement and Wellbeing Leader, Mrs N Evans and Head Teacher, Mrs L Shields.
Along with these main committee members, we have a great network of parents who volunteer to help with school discos, fun days etc and we as a PTA are very grateful for any help we get.
In the past few years we have helped the school to purchase Forest School Equipment, a new School wide Reading Scheme and interactive screens for the classrooms.
We regularly hold School Discos, Someone Special Days, Year 6 Leavers Prom as well as Fun Runs and Non Uniform Days plus many more fundraising events. We also are currently running the Second Hand Uniform Shop, which is open Friday mornings.
